This Code of Conduct outlines the principles and guidelines for managing conflicts of interest at Wilor Academy. All staff and contractors must be aware of potential conflicts and understand
how to report and manage actual or potential conflicts. This policy is designed to uphold the integrity of our business and the qualifications and assessments we provide. Adherence to this
code is essential to meet regulatory requirements as an educational institution.
Purpose
1. Definition of Conflict of Interest
1.1 A conflict of interest occurs when an individual or organisation has competing interests or loyalties, potentially compromising, having the potential to compromise, or appearing to
compromise their decisions.
1.2 Conflicts of interest may arise in various settings related to educational institutions. or within the organisation’s activities, including but not limited to training delivery, positions of authority, personal interests. relationships with friends or relatives of individuals taking assessments, commercial aspects, and personal interests.
1.3 Individuals must consider both actual conflicts and perceived conflicts, where an outside observer might perceive a competing interest or loyalty.
2. Our Commitment to Managing Conflicts of Interest
Wilor Academy is committed to:
➢ Taking reasonable steps to avoid conflicts of interest within our organisation.
➢ Assessing potential conflicts during team restructures or changes to job roles.
➢ Regularly reviewing and updating the conflict-of-interest policy.
➢ Ensure clear obligations for staff to manage conflicts.
➢ Ensuring confidentiality of assessment material and preventing staff involvement in related training.
➢ Requiring staff and assessors to declare any relationships with candidates before each examination series.
➢ Reviewing organisational level of conflicts annually.
➢ Providing specific guidance for staff on potential conflicts of interest. Responsibilities
3. Responsibility for Managing Conflicts of Interest
3.1 Senior Management Team (SMT):
Responsible for communicating the policy, ensuring awareness during induction, providing relevant training, and managing identified conflicts within their departments.
3.2 Principal: Responsible for annual review of department procedures related to conflicts of interest.
3.3 All Wilor Academy Staff:
➢ Must be familiar with the policy and complete mandatory training.
➢ Must report any activity presenting an actual or potential conflict of interest series.
➢ Must declare any outside work with potential conflicts and seek approval from SMT.
➢ Must declare family or friend relationships with candidates before each examination series.
4. Wilor Academy Responsible Officer
4.1 The College Administrator is responsible for escalating reports of conflicts of interest to the appropriate level within the business and, when necessary, to the SMT.
4.2 SMT’s appointed person will investigate reported issues and provide preliminary findings within five working days.
Logging and Managing Conflicts of Interest
5. Logging and Review
5.1 Organisational and staff conflicts are logged centrally and reviewed annually.
5.2 Staff must declare conflicts related to assessments before each series, with conflicts logged centrally.
5.3 Staff conflicts related to relationships with other parties are logged centrally and reviewed annually.
5.4 Conflicts are logged and managed by the Administrator, with annual reviews
5.5 Changes in roles affecting conflict management plans must be immediately reported to all stakeholders of Wilor Academy.
